driving you to excel
Technological advancement in the areas of mining, agriculture, manufacturing, and service provision and other sectors in South Africa have opened the door for many employment possibilities. These opportunities however are only accessible to those with sufficient ICT knowledge and skills. With this growing demand for ICT Skills in South Africa, entry and/or success in the labour market for people lacking such skills is likely to become increasingly difficult as there is a large gap between a small group of people who have access to ICT skills and a large group of people who do not.

iCT SKILLS SHORTAGE
The concern has been expressed to the effect that there is a shortage of ICT skills in South Africa which will act as a restraint on the attainment of government’s goal to achieve a sustainable annual six per cent growth rate in GDP and to halve unemployment and poverty. In a recent report it was found that there is a shortage of skilled black ICT candidates (Mosehle 2006) and other designated groups in South Africa (Ndlovu 2006). Fulfilling the requirements of the ICT Charter in terms of employment equity is a problem due to a shortage of ICT skills at all levels. More investment is required in skills development and employment equity in the ICT sector, as there has been more recruitment of staff instead of development of resources internally in ICT companies (Coetzer 2007).

EXCOSA: FOCUS #3 - SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAMME

In an ideal world everybody should be have the same equal opportunities to education but sadly in reality it is not so. It is the lack of infrastructure in the rural areas that magnifies the impact of Digital Divide in South Africa. Excosa has made a point to adopt schools and students willing to learn about entrepreneurship in order to prepare for life after school.
